My name is Thomas J Azzolini, DPM and I am the Director of the PMSR/RRA program sponsored by Hoboken University Medical Center. Our program is located in Hoboken, New Jersey. This places us a stone throw from the epicenter of this pandemic, New York City, and within the state with the second largest number of positive COVID-19 patients. Our podiatry residents are on the front lines treating foot and ankle trauma in the ED where numerous COVID positive patients are being treated each day. They are also staffing a spill over Fast Track ED along with family medicine residents and their attending physicians where most patients seen are suspected of COVID infection but are not ill enough to qualify for inpatient admission. I have been obtaining additional PPE from any viable source to supplement hospital supplies, as have the residents and their families. It is not an exaggeration to state these residents are putting their health and even their lives on the line to help their community. One resident was found to be COVID positive, was sick and quarantined, recovered and now is back to work with fellow residents. I recently told them “I want to keep this very simple. You guys can’t imagine how proud I am of every single one of you.”
